Modifications starting with Fall 2020 and continuing until further notice.
IN ADDITION TO RULES AND GUIDELINES OF HOST PARKS, we want all COBRA games to use the following practices:
1. EACH TEAM CHASES AND KEEPS THEIR OWN BASEBALLS. Our traditional rules ask that you provide two baseballs per game, both game-quality, and one should be new. Using 4 baseballs through two games will be consistent, but you may want to break out all 4 so you can keep the game going.
The umpires shouldn't need to touch the baseballs. The balls can come into play from the defensive dugout. Defensive players or fans should collect foul balls outside the fence and get them back to the dugout.
Baseballs may have a small mark to identify the team responsible for the baseball (i.e. Winter Park Warriors may write "WPW" on the baseball). The mark should be small and not distracting.
Game quality baseballs are still required. The penalty for putting a non-approved baseball will be:
1st infraction: Warning to the offending team. Offensive team has the option of taking the play or awarding the batter-runner first base. Other base runners advance only if forced. A run may score.
2nd infraction: Head Coach/Manager of offending team is ejected. Offensive team has the option of taking the play or awarding the batter-runner first base. Other base runners advance only if forced. A run may score.
The chief umpire should see the baseballs to be used before the game starts. The umpire has the final decision on the proper quality of the baseball as well as the propriety of the mark, if used.
2. HEAD COACH/MANAGER should poll players, coaches, and anyone else in the dugout to ensure all participants are not symptomatic. Temperature checks (if thermometer is available) should be completed to ensure no one has a fever.
